The exZact data collection platform, a turn-key mobile data collection solution for the iPhone and iPod touch, enables data collection to be done effectively and efficiently for business of all size will soon support emerging devices such as the iPad and Android. The exZact platform provides quick turn-around with over-the-air form distribution, real-time data upload, offline data collection (inside tunnel, indoor environment), ensures accurate data capture and eliminates redundancy and is easily integrated with back end systems. So why iPad and Android? The current platform will support iPad as is, but Zerion Software’s development team has big plans for the new form factor of the iPad.

“The iPhone gave us a push in the otherwise traditional field data collection and work order management market. We think the iPad is going to open up the market to yet another level. With the great form factor of the iPad, combine with the flexibility of the exZact platform, our clients in all industries (construction, education, medical, market research) can all benefit and achieve greater job performance.” says Sze Wong, CEO of Zerion Software.

The addition of Android provides another cost effective and capable client with an advanced feature set including: audio, video, GPS, photo capability, barcode, signature capture. They are user friendly and business and consumers are buying them.

At the January 5 Silicon Valley NewTech MeetUP, Chris Reichart of Zerion Software presented their exZact data collection platform. The platform launched in the summer of 2009. He walks through an application used by a current customer – Fresh One. Fresh One uses the exZact product for inspection of their products at various locations. They have created a form that allows the user to be prompted to look at packaging, freshness date, etc. The user, while mobile, checks each product at each location and submits data on a form created in exZact, then sends the data to a hosted server. The customer is able to view the data collected as well as view a map of where it was collected via a GPS capability. exZact also allows for offline coverage and sends when you are online again. Zerion Software is constantly enhancing this product. Look for future updates soon including an Android and iPad client…

A recent post on Steve Bromley’s UX Blog included exZact Data Collection as an essential iPhone app for usablitily professionals. “Quantitative research is also an important part of establishing user requirements, and working towards a design that meets their goals. The Data Collection iPhone app aims to allow you to create, and answer, custom surveys on the iPhone, collecting information like geographic location, and responses in a variety of forms (1-10 ratings, drop down lists, yes/no responses, and comment boxes). They then offer real time analysis, so you can see the results as they come in, and claim to be massively scalable. Offering a month’s free trial, it seems an effective solution if you require your data collection method to be mobile, and accessible anywhere.”

Chris Reichart of Zerion Software presented the exZact Data Collection Platform to the Corporate Advisory Council (CAC) and students from Bloomsburg University”s MSIT Program. Chris begins with a brief summary of his career and how he co-developed and launched the exZact data collection product. It all began with an online game – “Rochambeau” – which after three months of its launch date had obtained more than 10,000 users worldwide with no marketing efforts behind it. It was at this point they knew they were on to something. After dabbling in gaming, came the creation of “Vote Report” which allowed users to receive live reports of voting poll waiting lines on their mobile phones. Thus making it easy and convenient to know when to vote. This application was also an instant hit. Then, in the summer of 2009 the ExZact data collection product was launched at the NY Tech Show. Soon customers like Hershey, Fresh One and Gensler signed on. Customers had been looking for the ability to build forms and access data while mobile. ExZact allows a customer to create a form, collect data, submit information, view forms and access data – from a mobile location. All for $50 a month for 5 users – a price point that is hard to beat.

At last week’s Smart Phone Meetup group in DC, we ran our first Disruptathon with exZact as the voting platform. During the 2 hour event, 9 people presented and the group uses their iPhones and Twitter to vote for the best presenter.

We are happy that exZact performed flawlessly during the voting and Classics2GO came out as the winner.

Zerion will partner with Technology Frontiers to run 6 Disruptathon events around the country in the coming months. First event will be on October 28 in Washington D.C.

Stay tunned.
