Pairing the Socket CHS 7X(Rx) with the iPad for Bluetooth Scanning

April 30, 2010 1 comment

iPad_socket_7xWe received the Socket CHS 7X yesterday and were all excited to get started testing the new Bluetooth scanner and scanning bar codes into some exZact forms. The device was smaller than expected and felt good in the hand. Step 1, power up the scanner… step 2 turn on the device then hold the Trigger button and power button to enter pairing mode. Step 3, start scanning… oops the iPad did not recognize the scanner out of the box. I looked thru the documentation and found no iPad reference, but after a few Google searches I found the document… Scanned the “magical” bar code, Turned on Bluetooth from the iPad Setting screen and presto… untethered bar code scanning.

We are very excited about the opportunities to offer Bluetooth 1D and 2D bar coding for our clients. We will continue to look at ways to enhance the platform, but this is a big step to help with data accuracy and limiting data input. Nice work Socket!

Instructions on Pairing the Socket CHS 7X and 7Rx can be found here.

exZact to support iPad and Andriod
The exZact data collection platform, a turn-key mobile data collection solution for the iPhone and iPod touch, enables data collection to be done effectively and efficiently for business of all size will soon support emerging devices such as the iPad and Android. The exZact platform provides quick turn-around with over-the-air form distribution, real-time data upload, offline data collection (inside tunnel, indoor environment), ensures accurate data capture and eliminates redundancy and is easily integrated with back end systems. So why iPad and Android?  The current platform will support iPad as is, but Zerion Software’s development team has big  plans for the new form factor of the iPad.

“The iPhone gave us a push in the otherwise traditional field data collection and work order management market. We think the iPad is going to open up the market to yet another level. With the great form factor of the iPad, combine with the flexibility of the exZact platform, our clients in all industries (construction, education, medical, market research) can all benefit and achieve greater job performance.” says Sze Wong, CEO of Zerion Software.

The addition of Android provides another cost effective and capable client with an advanced feature set including: audio, video, GPS, photo capability, barcode, signature capture. They are user friendly and business and consumers are buying them.
